Does everyone go through this?

So, I'm going to be 25 in about a week. No, that's not old by any means, but I'm definitely past the 'child' stage. My entire life (well since I was old enough to mean well) I have always thought I would have an awesome job that was a blast and that I excelled in. I'm wondering now if that's a thought that everyone has until they are old enough to know better or if that is still something I should go after...

In one sense, life is short and we should enjoy it to the fullest extent. But on the other hand, I'm young and have a long 'career' life ahead of me. So, should I just take what comes and be happy that I have a decent job OR should I strive for my dream of an awesome job that is a blast and that I excel in? We can't tell the future, but I never imagined that this is where I would be at this stage in my life. Not that anything is necessarily wrong with where I am, I just thought it would be different.

I think of traveling, being creative, being important, and being a vital part of a company or organization as what I should be doing right now. I just can't quite figure out if that's just something I'm daydreaming about or an obtainable dream. I have a strong feeling that something is going to change soon for me, but I'm not known for my patience; not to mention I've had this feeling for almost a year. I'm not good at sitting around and being content with settling. I am always looking and striving for something more. So settling for what I have now and not excelling isn't going to be easy for me. I don't think it's the answer either. But what's the next step? I want an adventure!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!

Update:
I took a career test just for fun. And just as I suspected...

    You're a CREATOR

These original types place a high value on aesthetic qualities and have a great need for self-expression. You're a PERSUADER

Key Words: Witty, Competitive, Sociable, Talkative, Ambitious, Argumentative, and Aggressive

These enterprising types sell, persuade, and lead others. Positions of leadership, power, and status are usually their ultimate goal. Persuasive people like to take financial and interpersonal risks and to participate in competitive activities. They enjoy working with others inside organizations to accomplish goals and achieve economic success.

I should probably mention that I have always wanted to be an Interior Decorator
/Designer. I have thought a lot about going back to school to get another degree in it, but just don't have the means to do so. And there is the issue of working full time to pay my current bills to be able to go back to school after I figure out how to pay for school in the first place. I know it can be done. People do it everyday. That's a serious sacrifice and I guess I need to ask myself how bad I really want it.

I really appreciate everyone's input. Keep it coming!

I don't think you should ever let go of that dream. I don't ever want to become jaded with the "real world". 25 was kind of hard birthday for me ... I felt like I was ofocially leaving my early 20's and entering adulthood.

Thank you for the vote of confidence! I am just kinda stuck I guess. Don't know what the next step is really. Part of me wants to move and start over! :)

I remembered those years of thinking about similar thoughts when I was 25. Of course, now, I am older and I’m at about the same position in life as back where you are. I can say that I am blessed. I am serving a living God and our Savior for all eternity!

I am not trying to preach to you, because I really don’t know you personally. But let me say that with a good heart, wanting to glorify God, which I sense you want to do so, you will get your adventure. At that age, I was living in Hawaii and not hoping to go elsewhere. Since then, I have lived in three states, drove from California through Florida and visited many more states in the north. I didn’t think that I would be married, but I am now and married to a woman who God has blessed me with in more ways than words can express. In the last year, as I hope you have discovered from my blog, it has been one adventure after another.

Don’t despair. You will get your adventure. I’ll pray for you. I’ll keep up with your blog to ensure it.

I doubt that you know much about me, but I am a very deep individual. I usually don’t make comments just off the cuff. I appreciate you being open to me and willing to share your thoughts online.

I will continue to pray for you and if anything comes to mind, I’ll let you know. I do know that working full-time and going to college is a real challenge and not for everyone. Your friends have to be really being patient and understanding. Do you have people like that in your life? If you have that, you will have that as an option.
