Seriously?!

You will never guess what happened. You know, 'The Path'? Well just when we thought we were almost TOTALLY done with our year long project, this happened...Do you see the part over to the right where new digging has been done? That's because we discovered more path. Yeah, that's right...I said MORE path. I still haven't figured out if Dad was just trying to pull one over on me or not, lol, but regardless...there it is. I find it a little humorous, but at the same time I'm not surprised. My yard is mysterious. But the more character the better, I say.

Since this big pile of dirt (that we started over a year ago when the digging first began)

had to be moved before we could uncover this part of the path, we haven't made too much progress. However, I'm happy to report that all 3 flower beds are done...and it looks FABULOUS!

My brother (the really really really good photographer in the family) promised to take new shots of the yard once it's complete. My hope is fading that that will happen anytime soon, but in the meantime I will enjoy all the new blooms and share them with you as well!

Happy Memorial Day!

Remember the Path?

It's almost been a year, but I finally did some more digging. And to my dismay I still haven't come to an end of this path.

This is what it looked like last May.

This is after a little digging on Sunday.

My curiosity got the best of me and I just had to keep going...but still have no IDEA what's going to come of this pattern.

And a close up...

I'm still amazed that someone would cover this up, and can't wait to finish it. When it's done, I'm going to line the sides with rock and clean it up really well. Hopefully the last few days of rain will make for some easy digging . Surely there can't be much more to go!

Path Update

We did a little more digging this past weekend and now I'm more confused than ever. Where I thought it was opening up into a patio is actually where it splits into two. We shall see! I think this might turn into a Summer long project...

In With The Old, Out With The New

Back in the Fall, my wonderful Father & G. Mother helped me make my yard a little more inviting. We planted bushes in the front and pansies in the back. I had decided that I wanted the flowers to go the length of my patio. However, as we approached the end digging became a bit more difficult. Looking a little closer we realized those were bricks the shovel was hitting. To my dismay, no one wanted to help we discover what the bricks were doing there. So we stopped and for about 6 months I have enjoyed my beautiful pansies.

Can you guess where this is going? How long do you really think I could let our discovery be forgotten? Until last week. That's how long. So, I started digging...again. Digging isn't easy btw especially when this brick, whatever it is, is 6 inches below the grass line. Anywho, this is what I have uncovered so far...The bricks on the side is my attempt to "hold" the ground up when it rains. Which hasn't been successful but that's another story. But can you believe this? Why in the world would someone cover this up? I couldn't tell you, but I LOVE it! My house was built in the 1920s and there is no telling how old this path is. But the detail is awesome and tons of work was put into it. I haven't done much digging since the weekend (thanks Dad!) but the path is starting to open up into something. Maybe another patio? A circle? Either way this is really cool. Oh, and you should really come help me dig.
